Developing internal dashboards is a route often followed, but one that more often than not fails to deliver an end result that enjoys a long lifespan.
The purpose of a dashboard is to address key questions that consumers of the dashboard need to have answered quickly, which will allow them to make the right decisions, faster.
It is not about showcasing the strengths of an IT department or the improved features of newly acquired technology.
It is about the distillation of a question into its core component and building the segment of the dashboard that extracts the refinement of the data.
Creating dashboards is easy from a technology perspective, creating dashboards that people become reliant on daily is more challenging and we measure our success of the dashboards based on the consumption of them.
